In 1869, Mr. Joseph Wiper invented his minty confection in a copper cauldron; sugar, glucose and peppermint oil, which he then enrobed in chocolate. A key component in the provision chests of Sir Ernest Shackleton for the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914) & the early British Mount Everest expeditions (1922), it remains to this day a favorite among mountaineers & explorers. Venerable grandfather of the energy bar.
